Mission Statement:
To promote ethics by providing information and training to GFOAT members so they can make ethical choices when situations arise.
Ethics in Government:
The Ethics Committee has established an award to recognize ethical behavior for government finance officials. The first award was made at the Spring Conference, held in Austin on April 7, 2003. The awardee was recognized not only as the first recipient of this award, but the award was officially named after the first recipient, Lewis McLain, GFOAT Executive Director. From this point forward, the "Lewis F. McLain, Jr. Ethics in Leadership Award" will be presented at each Spring Conference based on applications received and recommendations given for candidates of this award. Deadlines are usually the end of January preceding each Spring Conference. The criteria for the award are very rigid, so may not be given every year.
