The GFOAT Board approved a change in the duty assignments regarding the CGFO program. Becky Brooks (with the assistance of Suzette Clair) will handle all registration tasks, record keeping and reporting responsibilities, working on behalf of the GFOAT Board and the Professional Development
Committee.

Mission Statement
To provide assistance in the pursuit of maintaining competence, enhancing competence of colleagues and encouraging othe s in the field of government finance. This committee manages the Certified Government Finance Officer Program for the benefit of professional education and development of government finance officers. The certification program is a broad educational program designed to
verify knowledge in the disciplines of government finance.

Meeting Dates
The Committee meets prior to each Spring and Fall Conference. The meetings are traditionally at the hotel site for the Spring Conference and on Wednesday afternoon for the Fall Conference.
Upcoming Test Dates and Locations
The CGFO exams will be offered on the first day of each conference. Occasionally, as needed, exams will be offered in various regions, usually in conjunction with the regional meetings.
Certified Government Finance Officer
Program created in 1987 for the benefit of professional education and development of Government Finance Officers. Certification visibly recognizes Finance Officers with distinguished professional experience, academic credentials, leadership involvement, examination performance, and a commitment to continuing professional education.
Certification Candidacy
Candidacy is established through membership in GFOAT, employment with a governmental agency, completion of application, submission of appropriate fees, and submission of appropriate documentation. Certification requires point accumulation of 375 points through professional experience, academic credentials, leadership involvement and test scores. See application for detail point accumulation.
Certification Maintenance
For certifications to maintain an active status, CGFO's must remain a member of GFOAT, remain employed by governmental entity, submit annual renewal fee, and submit continuing education units by March 30. The commitment to continued education to the profession involves 25 units of continuing education. Each unit is equal to 50 minutes of continuous participation in an approved educational activity or other qualifying activity as specified in the Program Outline.
